The first Greeks in Toronto settled downtown beginning in the latter part of the 19th century. This first wave of migrants primarily resided in the neighbourhoods between Yonge Ave. and Church St., and Dundas Ave. and Carlton St. Following the 鈥攂ut especially after the second migratory wave in the 1950s and 1960s鈥擥reeks established themselves on Danforth Avenue. Through story maps, an interactive map, digitized newspapers and photographs from the HHF Greek Canadian Archives, 鈥淭he Making of 鈥楪reektown鈥 project aims to represent the historical movement and growth of the Greek community in Toronto between the 1950s and 1970s.
