I Plateia

In Greece, the plateia serves a vital role. Surrounded by civic and religious buildings and shops, it is a gathering place for all social classes. Artisans, craftspeople, and merchants showcase their work, while others gather to socialize or participate in public assemblies or cultural events.

I Plateia aims to fulfill a similar role in Greek Canada鈥檚 digital public sphere. It is an inclusive space for our large, dispersed, and diverse community to engage in conversation and refine our perspectives. It is a place to showcase the diversity of Greek Canadian experiences. We invite submissions from scholars, students, community members, and others interested in Greek Canada.

By: Vasilis (Bill) Molos Engaging friends and neighbours through a lecture on Toronto鈥檚 Greektown or a rebetiko performance prompts reciprocal obligations. Sharing dolmades leads to trying a dosa. A hasapiko dance lesson begets a Haida basket-weaving workshop. These exchanges strengthen our attachment to our diverse society. And in learning about our similarities and differences, we nurture a sense of belonging to a shared Canada, blurring the contours of our vibrant mosaic.

Looking at my open notebook with blank lined pages, I fixate on the fold where the pages rise and fall.
