{"id":371737,"date":"2025-01-03T14:15:00","date_gmt":"2025-01-03T19:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/?p=371737"},"modified":"2025-01-05T18:38:26","modified_gmt":"2025-01-05T23:38:26","slug":"500k-boost-for-yorks-portuguese-canadian-history-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/2025\/01\/03\/500k-boost-for-yorks-portuguese-canadian-history-project\/","title":{"rendered":"$500K boost for York's Portuguese Canadian History Project"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New funding worth half-a-million dollars will support a cultural preservation project housed in the Clara Thomas Archives at 快播视频.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/pchp-phlc.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Portuguese Canadian History Project<\/a> (PCHP) has secured $500,000 from members of the Portuguese Canadian community and the Consulate of Portugal in Toronto, which will sustain the project over the next five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project is an incorporated non-profit organization that aims to preserve, digitize and provide access to important historical materials that are vital for understanding the contributions of the Portuguese community in Canada. (Photo courtesy PCHP)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Gilberto Fernandes<\/strong>, a researcher at 快播视频 who leads the PCHP, says the funding will support future events, tours and online experiences. These initiatives not only engage the public but also strengthen connections among researchers, students and community members, says Fernandes. Since its establishment, the project has been instrumental in documenting and celebrating the stories and contributions of Portuguese Canadians, enhancing the understanding and appreciation of their histories and heritage. Fernandes remains committed to advancing the project and expanding its impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Oct. 16, the PCHP celebrated its 15th anniversary at Scott Library at the 快播视频 Keele Campus, marking the occasion with an announcement of the $500,000 donation. The event brought together key figures from the Portuguese community and supporters of the initiative, including the Ambassador of Portugal to Canada, the Secretary of State for the Portuguese Communities, the Consul General of Portugal in Toronto, Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts &amp; Professional Studies <strong>J.J.
