{"id":353632,"date":"2024-04-30T15:58:16","date_gmt":"2024-04-30T19:58:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yfile.news.yorku.ca\/?p=353632"},"modified":"2025-04-02T12:45:21","modified_gmt":"2025-04-02T16:45:21","slug":"a-new-direction-for-glendon-college","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/2024\/04\/30\/a-new-direction-for-glendon-college\/","title":{"rendered":"A new direction for Glendon College"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Since the fall of 2021, Glendon has been engaged in a repositioning exercise to ensure that program offerings are compelling, career-relevant, geared toward student needs and sustainable.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout the repositioning process, faculty, staff, students, alumni and other community members have been actively engaged in a thoughtful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/glendon\/strategicdirection\/upcoming-community-consultation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">consultation process<\/a> about the future direction of Glendon College. Town hall events, community conversations, meetings with Senate and Faculty Council, and polls were regularly held as community touchpoints over the past three years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The future direction for Glendon includes the restructuring of academic units to promote greater interdisciplinarity and to support research, teaching and the student experience. The revised structure also focused on embracing efficiency in the delivery of Glendon\u2019s programs and strengthening enrolment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis new structure presents an opportunity to establish an environment that supports the kind of academic renewal that is needed among today\u2019s universities, where new and innovative ideas are born at the intersection of disciplines,\u201d says <strong>Marco Fiola<\/strong>, principal of Glendon College. \u201cI would like to thank all Glendon and ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ community members who have participated in this process to create a vibrant future at Glendon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On April 30, 2024, York\u2019s Board of Governors approved the restructuring of Glendon\u2019s academic units, bringing into place the following new departmental structure as of September 1, 2024:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Glendon Department of Global Communication and Cultures;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Glendon Department of Science;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Glendon Department of Economics, Business and Mathematics; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Glendon Department of Global and Social Studies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA more integrated structure supports creativity in thinking across disciplines when it comes to renewing our curriculum and building our research culture. Above all else, academic programs must remain responsive to the changes we are seeing across higher education today,\u201d says <strong>Lisa Philipps<\/strong>, provost and vice-president academic. \u201cI want to recognize the Glendon colleagues who will ultimately ensure the success of the repositioning. This new structure supports sustainability and enables us to deliver the best learning experience possible for our students.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the coming months, changes will continue to unfold, including adjustments to academic programming to enhance the student experience, creating co-ordinated recruitment efforts that align with the University-wide strategy and modifications to Glendon\u2019s administrative service model. All these efforts will support the delivery of an enhanced educational experience for students at Glendon starting this fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"french\">\u201cWe have the <a>know-how<\/a> and we have the ingenuity to be a bold and forward-thinking part of ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵ,\" says Fiola. \"This new, streamlined academic structure will help us make better use of our resources, for the benefit of our students and faculty members.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Une nouvelle orientation pour le Coll\u00e8ge Glendon <\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Depuis l\u2019automne&nbsp;2021, Glendon se pr\u00eate \u00e0 un exercice de repositionnement pour s\u2019assurer que ses offres de programmes sont non seulement pertinentes et en rapport avec une carri\u00e8re professionnelle, mais aussi durables et ax\u00e9es sur les besoins de la population \u00e9tudiante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tout au long de ce repositionnement, le corps professoral, le personnel, la population \u00e9tudiante, des dipl\u00f4m\u00e9s et d\u2019autres membres de la communaut\u00e9 ont particip\u00e9 activement \u00e0 un <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/glendon\/strategicdirection\/upcoming-community-consultation\/\">processus de consultation<\/a> approfondi sur l\u2019orientation future du Coll\u00e8ge Glendon. Des conversations communautaires, des r\u00e9unions avec le S\u00e9nat et le Conseil de la facult\u00e9 et des sondages d\u2019opinion ont \u00e9t\u00e9 organis\u00e9s r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement au cours des trois derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es afin de rester en relation avec la communaut\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019orientation future de Glendon comprend la restructuration des unit\u00e9s acad\u00e9miques afin de promouvoir une plus grande interdisciplinarit\u00e9 et d\u2019appuyer la recherche, l\u2019enseignement et l\u2019exp\u00e9rience \u00e9tudiante. La structure modifi\u00e9e privil\u00e9gie aussi l\u2019efficacit\u00e9 de la prestation des programmes de Glendon et le renforcement des inscriptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00ab&nbsp;Cette nouvelle structure nous donne la possibilit\u00e9 de cr\u00e9er un environnement qui favorise le renouveau acad\u00e9mique essentiel aux universit\u00e9s d\u2019aujourd\u2019hui et dans lequel des id\u00e9es nouvelles et innovantes voient le jour au croisement des disciplines, d\u00e9clare <strong>Marco Fiola<\/strong>, principal du Coll\u00e8ge Glendon. Tous ces efforts appuieront une exp\u00e9rience \u00e9ducative am\u00e9lior\u00e9e pour la population \u00e9tudiante de Glendon d\u00e8s cet automne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00ab&nbsp;Nous poss\u00e9dons le savoir-faire et l\u2019ing\u00e9niosit\u00e9 n\u00e9cessaires pour devenir une composante dynamique et avant-gardiste de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 York.
