The agreement was signed by York President &amp; Vice-Chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri and Suranja Das, vice-chancellor of the University of Calcutta, during a special ceremony\u00a0on June 20.<\/p>\n<table border=\"0\" summary=\"\" width=\"200\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"8\" align=\"center\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/photos\/20110704\/signing1_cor.jpg\" alt=\" From left, Suranja Das, vice-chancellor of the University of Calcutta, and York President &amp; Vice-Chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri\" width=\"450\" height=\"385\" \/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Above: From left, Suranja Das, vice-chancellor of the University of Calcutta, and York President &amp; Vice-Chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are pleased to sign this agreement with India\u2019s Calcutta University and National Law University (Delhi),\u201d said Shoukri. \u201cAt York, we recognize the value of internationalization for our community. This partnership provides our faculty and students with comprehensive learning and research opportunities, allowing them to collaborate, share ideas, and grow their worldly experiences, thereby enhancing their contributions to our global economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The agreement allows for the exchange of students and faculty across disciplines and offers opportunities for collaborative research, joint project development and more. The first concrete area of collaboration\u00a0will likely be in the area of nanotechnology, which is the study\u00a0of manipulating matter on an atomic and molecular scale. Following the signing ceremony, Das who was on his first visit to Canada, gave a well-attended talk titled \u201cIndia at the Crossroads\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The impetus for the linkage between 快播视频 and the University of Calcutta came through a connection with\u00a0Sampra Badra, a professor of physics in York's Faculty of Science &amp; Engineering and associate dean of the\u00a0Faculty of Graduate Studies. Badra and Das were\u00a0schoolmates in India <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/photos\/20110704\/sampra_cor.jpg\" alt=\"Sampra Badra\" width=\"248\" height=\"300\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"8\" vspace=\"8\" \/>and have kept in touch ever since.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Left: Sampra Badra<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBadra was the initiator and driving force for our two universities starting talks,\u201d said York Associate Vice-President International Lorna Wright. \u201cOur connections with the University of Calcutta go back before there was a 快播视频. Professor Emeritus of Mathematics, Lee Lorch, gave a talk on mathematics there in 1944 on the Summability of Infinite Series.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a University-wide agreement with so much potential in a wide variety of subjects, including history, women\u2019s studies, political science, peace and conflict resolution, mathematics, nanotechnology, and fine arts,\u201d Wright added.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the signing ceremony, Das\u00a0met with Badra,\u00a0Martin Singer, dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts &amp; Professional Studies, and York mathematics and statistics Professor Jianhong Wu, who is\u00a0Canada Research Chair in Industrial\u00a0&amp; Applied Mathematics.<\/p>\n<p>Later that day, at Osgoode\u2019s temporary offices in South Ross, Osgoode Hall Law School Dean Lorne Sossin and Wright met with a delegation of three vice-chancellors from three law schools in India. They signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with\u00a0Ranbir Singh, vice-chancellor of the National Law University (Delhi). The MOU outlines a basis\u00a0from which a future agreement may be signed that\u00a0would include cooperative research and exchanges of students, faculty and fellows, <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/yfile\/photos\/20110704\/osgoode_YFile1.jpg\" alt=\" From left, Ranbir Singh, vice-chancellor of the National Law University (Delhi) and Osgoode Hall Law School Dean Lorne Sossin\" width=\"350\" height=\"267\" align=\"left\" border=\"1\" hspace=\"8\" vspace=\"8\" \/>between the\u00a0two institutions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Left: From left,\u00a0Ranbir Singh, vice-chancellor of the National Law University (Delhi) and Osgoode Hall Law School Dean Lorne Sossin<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sossin also met with\u00a0Veer Singh, vice-chancellor of NALSAR University of Law,\u00a0and\u00a0Balraj Chauhan, vice-chancellor of Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University in\u00a0Lucknow.\u00a0The group\u00a0engaged in exploratory meetings to learn more about each other and where the two\u00a0institutions could build a future agreement.<\/p>\n<p>\"We are excited about this new partnership, which further deepens Osgoode's engagement with India and will provide additional learning and research opportunities for students and faculty,\" said\u00a0 Sossin.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Discussions toward the agreement began in March when Sossin and several other Osgoode faculty members including Lisa Philipps, associate dean research, graduate studies &amp; institutional relations, visited India and had an opportunity to meet with faculty and students and tour the excellent new facilities at NLU (Delhi). \"Monday's signing ceremony at Osgoode was a wonderful launch for our official institutional relationship,\" Sossin said.<\/p>\n<p>NLU (Delhi) was established in 2008 by the Delhi Government at the initiative of the Delhi High Court. The University has state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities for learning and research and has been offering a BA, LLB (Hons) program for three years. Starting this August, NLU (Delhi) will offer LLM programs in specialized areas and a PhD program.<\/p>\n<table border=\"0\" summary=\"\" width=\"200\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"8\"
