This will tell you how the course will be administered and in what format.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some common course type abbreviations include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>LECT: In-person lecture<\/li><li>BLEN: Blended learning - partially online, partially in-person<\/li><li>ONLN: Fully online, asynchronous<\/li><li>REMT: Remote - online synchronous<\/li><li>ONCA: Fully online, with the exception of come course components like exams<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where do I find my online class?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Login to<a href=\"https:\/\/eclass.yorku.ca\/\"> eClass <\/a>with your <a href=\"http:\/\/student.computing.yorku.ca\/passwords-passport-york-access\/\">Passport York<\/a> sign-in.<\/li><li>If it is your first time logging in, you'll be prompted to confirm your email address.<\/li><li>On your course dashboard you'll see a list of all of the courses you have access to and that have been made available to you.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information, check out this handy YorkU guide to help you with <a href=\"https:\/\/lthelp.yorku.ca\/accessing-moodle\">accessing your courses<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group grey-bg-block has-very-light-gray-background-color has-background\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"> Where can I go on campus to login to my online class? <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p> Students are able to book study spaces through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.library.yorku.ca\/web\/ask-services\/book-a-study-seatspace-at-the-libraries\/\">YorkU Libraries<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How can I be successful in an online class?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Treat your remote\/online course as seriously as an in-person course.<\/strong>&nbsp;Remote and online courses abide by the same rules of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/oscr.students.yorku.ca\/csrr\">conduct<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/spark.library.yorku.ca\/academic-integrity-what-is-academic-integrity\/\">academic integrity<\/a>. Your instructor has put in a lot of thought and effort to design a great course for you - take your coursework seriously and make the most of your learning experience.<\/li><li><strong>Adapt your routine and create good study habits.<\/strong>&nbsp;If you are used to commuting and having a full schedule of in-person classes, studying remotely will mean a new system for scheduling and managing your time. Set aside time for class, studying, hobbies, friends\/family just as you would for in-person classes.<\/li><li><strong>Seek out updates and information.&nbsp;<\/strong>You may be used to getting a lot of your information from class announcements. ¿ì²¥ÊÓƵing remotely, it is your responsibility to actively check for information and updates. Set a schedule that will work for you to regularly check eClass, your YorkU email, and the YorkU website.<\/li><li><strong>Communicate with your instructor and your classmates.<\/strong>&nbsp;Online communication may look a little different, but there are still opportunities to connect. Know how to connect with your instructor - do they have online office hours? Does your class have a discussion group? Interested in hosting a study group? So, do you still have to take notes? Yes! Note taking while reading is a learning strategy that helps you make sense of the material, identify key points, and make connections between ideas. A great note sheet will also help you quickly review the key points from the material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just because you are reading online, doesn't mean that you must take your notes online as well. Choose the note taking method that is most effective for you, whether that is a notebook, printing out and writing on your reading, making flashcards, a mind map, typing them out, or using an app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some online tools for taking notes online that you can try. Remember, the right tool, is the one that works for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-ca\/microsoft-365\/onenote\/digital-note-taking-app\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">OneNote<\/a>&nbsp;- A note taking tool part of the Microsoft 365 suite.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/support.perusall.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/360033995914-How-do-notes-work-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Perusall<\/a>&nbsp;- Tool for adding notes into a document online.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/helpx.adobe.com\/ca\/acrobat\/using\/commenting-pdfs.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Adobe<\/a>&nbsp;- Use annotation and drawing markup tools to add comments in PDFs<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/scld\/learning-skills\/\">Learning Skills Services<\/a> for more information about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/scld\/learning-skills\/reading-and-notes\/\">active reading and effective note-taking.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is the difference between a synchronous and an asynchronous class?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Courses offered online (designated as&nbsp;<strong>ONLN<\/strong>) have no specified meeting times and students are expected to progress through the course at their own pace. You may also see these courses referred to as&nbsp;<strong><em>asynchronous<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;in the&nbsp;<strong>Notes\/Additional Fees<\/strong>&nbsp;column of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/w2prod.sis.yorku.ca\/Apps\/WebObjects\/cdm\">York Courses Website<\/a>&nbsp;timetable listings. Students in an asynchronous course are still expected to follow common times\/deadlines for submitting assignments, completing tests, etc.<\/li><li>Courses offered&nbsp;<strong>remotely<\/strong>&nbsp;(designated as&nbsp;<strong>REMT<\/strong>) are also offered online but have specified meeting times as a course normally would if it were offered in-person, for example, in a lecture hall. The phenomenon refers to our current situation of physical distancing and how we feel replacing in-person interactions with video conferencing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Managing Zoom Fatigue:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Manage your time.<\/strong>&nbsp;When you create your schedule for the day\/week, think about balancing time to yourself and time on video conference. What is your ideal for maintaining your energy levels? Consider blocking off times of day where you are most productive for study time.<\/li><li><strong>Consider alternate methods of communication.<\/strong>&nbsp;We have created new habits of turning everything into a video meeting. Consider when a conversation may work just as well over email or over the phone.<\/li><li><strong>Be kind to yourself.<\/strong>&nbsp;Adjusting to studying remotely during COVID-19 brings new challenges for many of us. Practice self-care and be kind to yourself when you are not at your best. If you need to turn off your video for a while or reschedule, communicate your needs to the people you are meeting with.
