Williams DARE Award in Canadian Studies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Faculty of LA&amp;PS is excited to announce the launch of a new stream of DARE Awards, in addition to our current DARE program. These are the <strong>Arthur F. Williams DARE Awards in Canadian Studies<\/strong>.&nbsp;Up to 8 Arthur F. Williams awards may be available (depending on number of projects approved for posting).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<a id=\"eligibility\"><\/a>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group grey-bg-block has-very-light-gray-background-color has-background\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-3 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Award Details<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Research is completed from May 1 to Aug. 31.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Each student receives $5,000, paid over the four months.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Up to 50 awards are available each summer term.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Poster submissions will be considered for a Best Poster Award, to be announced at the DARE Poster Exhibit and Celebration Event in the Fall. The Award includes a certificate and gift card valued at $300.00. Up to two honourable mentions will receive a certificate and gift card valued at $100.00.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eligibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The award is open to full-time undergraduate students enrolled as Majors in a program within the Faculty of LA&amp;PS. Students enrolled in non LA&amp;PS programs but who are taking individual LA&amp;PS courses are not eligible. Non-LA&amp;PS program Majors with a Minor in a LA&amp;PS program are ineligible for DARE.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>As of December 31, 2025<\/strong>, you must have a minimum 7.0 GPA and have completed at least 48 credits.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Continuing students and those graduating in the spring may also apply.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Arthur F. Williams DARE Award<\/strong> nominees must meet the same criteria as a normal DARE nominee, and the following additional requirements:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Must be Canadian Citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>International students are <strong>not eligible<\/strong> for Arthur F. Williams DARE Awards.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Must be able to demonstrate financial need (link to required forms will be provided in Expression of Interest).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Applications are evaluated based on your overall academic record, the project description, and the way you express your learning objectives and role in the project.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students who have won DARE awards in previous years are eligible to participate again.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students expecting to receive Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) assistance during the Summer are advised to review potential implications to their funding should they be successful in receiving a DARE Award. It helped me identify the soft skills that you can\u2019t sit in a classroom and learn - you have to be a witness, you have to job-shadow, you have to see people who do phenomenally well at it in their field, pick up the skills and have that mentor relationship with your professor.
