The Panel鈥檚 Moderator will be Claire Deng (Toronto Metropolitan University).

Emerging Scholars Colloquium 2026

The ESC will provide emerging scholars with an opportunity to present and discuss their research projects with senior qualitative researchers within a relatively informal atmosphere.

Keynote Speaker: Darlene Himick (University of Ottawa)

Darlene Himick is a full professor at the University of Ottawa and holds the Father Edgar Thivierge Professorship in Financial Inclusion. Her research examines how contemporary and historical financial systems shift risk and responsibility onto individuals across a range of social and economic domains. She studies how financial practices are constructed, governed, and communicated, with work spanning retirement systems, financial vulnerability, and the fossil fuel divestment movement. Her current research examines emerging forms of financial communication, including online finfluencers and youth financial literacy.

Her research has been published in Accounting, Organizations and Society, Contemporary Accounting Research, Critical Perspectives on Accounting, and Journal of Management Studies, among others. She serves on the editorial boards of several leading journals and is an Associate Editor at Critical Perspectives on Accounting.
