{"id":240605,"date":"2017-09-12T12:54:33","date_gmt":"2017-09-12T16:54:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/comn.laps.yorku.ca\/?p=240605"},"modified":"2017-09-12T12:54:33","modified_gmt":"2017-09-12T16:54:33","slug":"communication-studies-research-digest-summer-edition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.yorku.ca\/laps\/newsroom\/2017\/09\/12\/communication-studies-research-digest-summer-edition\/","title":{"rendered":"Communication Studies Research Digest - Summer Edition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This past summer has been busy and Communication Studies faculty travelled all over the world, from Beijing to Cartagena, from London and Paris to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hans-bredow-institut.de\/de\/veranstaltung-event\/tracing-entanglements-in-media-history\">Lund<\/a> and Chicago, among many others.<\/p>\n<p>Prof. MacLennan, Fresco and Driver presented their research at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acc-cca.ca\/\">Canadian Communication Association Conference<\/a>, where Prof. Obar also co-organized a Wikipedia edit-a-thon. Prof. Skinner and Craven presented respectively on Community TV Policy and Edwardian postcards as social networks and social capital at the <a href=\"https:\/\/iamcr.org\/\">International Association for Media and Communication Research<\/a>. Prof. Langlois presented on textile as medium at the New Materialism Conference in Paris. Prof. Coulter was visiting Faculty at the Europe-China Media Dialogue: Media and Communication Summer School, School of Journalism and Communication at Beijing University in&nbsp;Beijing China. She also presented at the Marketing and Critique conference in London, UK, and with Prof. MacLennan on \u201cBoxtop Citizenship: Children, Consumer Culture and Radio\u201d at the <a href=\"https:\/\/shcy2017.wordpress.com\">Society for the History of Children and Youth<\/a>. Prof. Driver presented at the <a href=\"https:\/\/deleuze2017.wordpress.com\/\">International Deleuze Conference<\/a>. Prof. Obar presented <a href=\"https:\/\/papers.ssrn.com\/sol3\/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3017277\">research<\/a> on big data and privacy at <a href=\"https:\/\/ocs.library.carleton.ca\/index.php\/datapower\/datapower2017\">Data Power<\/a>&nbsp;and <a href=\"http:\/\/socialmediaandsociety.org\/past-conferences\/2017-2\/\">Social Media and Society<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Summer is typically the time when faculty develop new research projects and write books and papers, so expect a few publications and conference presentations in the coming months on privacy, subjectivity and new media, sports and immaterial labour, Canadian settler colonialism, radio in Canada and girlhood politics.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This past summer has been busy and Communication Studies faculty travelled all over the world, from Beijing to Cartagena, from London and Paris to Lund and Chicago, among many others.
