December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, a time to remember the lives lost and acknowledge the ongoing impact of gender-based violence. As we reflect, we also reaffirm our collective responsibility to stand with survivors, raise awareness, and confront the deep-rooted norms that sustain violence and hate.\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n

快播视频 will hold a memorial ceremony<\/a> in honour of the 14 women killed at Polytechnique Montr\u00e9al on December 6, 1989: Genevi\u00e8ve Bergeron, H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Colgan, Nathalie Croteau, Barbara Daigneault, Anne-Marie Edward, Maud Haviernick, Maryse Lagani\u00e8re, Maryse Leclair, Anne-Marie Lemay, Sonia Pelletier, Mich\u00e8le Richard, Annie St-Arneault, Annie Turcotte, and Barbara Klucznik-Widajewicz.\u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will take place at the Bergeron Centre for Engineering Excellence on Dec. 5, 2025, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Community members at Glendon and Markham Campuses are encouraged to gather for the livestream at their respective locations: the Ballroom in Glendon Manor and room MK2050 at Markham. The memorial ceremony, along with other events planned for the\u202f16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence<\/a>, aims to honour those who have been lost and inspire the community to take meaningful action and support those in need.\u200b <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In solidarity, please consider wearing a white ribbon as a symbol of your commitment to ending gender-based violence. Ribbons will be available at the memorial ceremony and live stream viewing locations on December 5.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Centre for Sexual Violence Response, Support & Education and partners are hosting a series of events for York community members in recognition of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

York joins communities across Canada to honour victims of gender-based violence. An institutional statement<\/a> was issued, co-signed by Rhonda Lenton, President & Vice-Chancellor, Laina Y. Bay-Cheng, Professor and Vice-President Equity, People & Culture and Jane Goodyer, Dean, Lassonde School of Engineering.
